Global spending on digital transformation in the logistics industry is expected to grow from $52.2 billion in 2022 to $75.5 billion in 2026, increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.8% during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, two-thirds (67%) of transportation and logistics companies say they have a formally approved digital transformation strategy to actively digitalize their business processes. Nearly all of the rest – 31% – said they are considering or evaluating such a plan. Only 3% said they do not have a digital transformation strategy at all.

The largest percentage of respondents with a digital transformation plan are cargo shippers and forwarders (70%). The most frequently cited barrier to digital transformation is lack of skills and personnel (40%), followed by legacy mindset and bad ROI expectations.

According to Accenture’s latest survey, the logistics&transport sector’s digitalization process appears to be quite fragile, with ¾ of respondents believing that the sector is lagging behind in its digital maturity. At the same time, 76% of respondents agreed that failure to improve digital capabilities could seriously jeopardize their business.

6 in 10 organizations plan to invest in digital technology to enhance their supply chain processes. This shift towards digitalization underscores the recognition that advanced technologies can improve efficiency and data analysis capabilities.
